Christmas in the tropics

A Christmas verse on
how Santa keeps his cool.

‘Twas hot in Broome’s wet, and who should appear But Santa in full kit, all grins and good cheer: A proper red suit, boots, beard, belt and bells, Like the Santa in stories that everyone tells. No Bunnings red coveralls, gumboots or gloves, But the Santa from candy-cane dreams that kids love. From an esky of ice, chilled water flows round Through a vest underneath, where it cools Santa down. Not sweaty and soggy when dressed in his best, He’s ready for wishes and all of the rest. The elves call it magic. High-tech, do you think? Santa touches his nose and gives us a wink.

On Christmas Eve the ABC came to see how Santa survives a 40-degree Broome summer — esky throne, icy water and all. ‘Tropical Santa turns to an icy esky to beat Australia’s sweltering Christmas heat’ — ABC News, 24 December 2025.

More than a ho, ho, ho

Put Santa in

A short video of Santa spruiking your business, products or Christmas specials can be a lot of fun — and it genuinely works.

Back in 2019, Santa was spreading festive cheer at Harvey Norman — kids on his knee and all — and he made a quick video to let everyone know he was on his way. Outtakes and all, it was a heap of fun, and it brought a lot of people through the doors.

If time permits before your event, Santa can record a festive video for your business — perfect for announcing on Facebook that Santa’s on his way. It’s an optional extra, it won’t cost the world, and it’s priced per job, so just mention it when you enquire.

Watch the 2019 Harvey Norman video below, then ask about a festive video for your own business. Tell Santa your idea ↗

A familiar visitor around town

Santa’s been busy in Broome.

Previous appearances include Harvey Norman, the Boulevard shopping centre, Paspaley Plaza, private events at the Mangrove and Matso’s, Shire events at Town Beach, and the Broome Fishing Club. Santa has even hosted trivia at the Spini, done the grotto at the Broome CIRCLE Christmas markets, and visited the Jack and Jill Playgroup, good causes both — and he’s back at Broome CIRCLE again this year.

Let’s make a date
